Join us for the next instalments of the Chronicles in Paper workshop series which invites you to explore the art of screenprinting and the craft of notebook making. The 3-part workshop, led by local creatives Aprille Zammit and Glen Calleja, these workshops will provide a unique opportunity to delve into creative processes while offering a hands on experience. The first two sessions will focus on screenprinting a notebook cover, and the final session will focus on binding a notebook, participants will leave with a customised notebook.

Part 1 & 2: Screenprinting with Aprille Zammit

This session invites participants to explore screenprinting as a playful and meditative process. Led by artist and printmaker Aprille Zammit, the workshop offers an introduction to this accessible technique using hand-drawn stencils and water-based inks. Participants will be encouraged to work intuitively, guided by Aprille’s philosophy of spontaneity and flow while screenprinting.

With nature as a recurring muse in her practice, Aprille’s approach to screenprinting is grounded in presence, gratitude, and experimentation. The session is ideal for both beginners and those wishing to expand their creative toolkit, with space to translate personal narratives into bold, graphic forms.

All materials will be provided, including screens, inks, paper, and drawing tools. You are welcome to bring your own sketches or imagery to incorporate into your prints.

Workshop 3: Notebook Making with Glen Calleja

In the final session of the series, multidisciplinary artist and bookbinder Glen Calleja will guide participants through the process of creating a handmade notebook. Drawing from traditional techniques and contemporary book binding, this workshop explores the book as an intimate object — a space for reflection, archiving, and play.

Participants will learn to fold, bind, and stitch their own notebooks using simple tools and high-quality materials, while engaging with Glen’s unique perspective on poetry, found content, and the performative act of making.

All materials, including covers, paper, threads, and tools, will be provided.

After earning her BFA in graphic design and printmaking from Virginia Commonwealth University, she established her screen printing studio in Malta, where she teaches workshops and shares her love for the art form. Aprille’s work is deeply inspired by nature, particularly the sea, and she aims to evoke a sense of hope and gratitude through her art.
